Announcements:
The 6th graders will be going on a picnic this Friday at the Lakeside Park in Caledonia for lunch. We will be discussing more about Kids Helping Kids, and will have a guest speaker from In the Image come and talk with the students. Please return the permission form, and let us know if you would like to send a dessert!
Weekly Reading Starting
We are starting out weekly 'Status of Your At Home Reading' in language arts. These are reading logs with a couple twists to help the students make sure they are really reading for their enjoyment. First, there isn't a typical summary. They fill out what they read, where they read, and then finish the sentence "I left off at the part where..." This is a very quick comprehension check. The students are also familiar with this format because they have already been filling our one for their school reading. Second, I only enter the grade every three weeks, and if they miss reading for one week, they are allowed to make it up the next week, no harm done. Third, the students can get extra points or in-class coupons for extra reading and parent signatures.
Please let me know if you have any questions at all about this. Reading everyday is extremely important for literacy growth, and this is their main source of homework for language arts for the year. Here is an extra copy if you would like one, or would like to see it!
